When I first got exposed to Twitter, I said to myself: “Why would people lose their time on this site?”
Well, I must admit that I now understand why… I got the Twitter bug! I should specify though: I am not the one to spend my days tweeting about what I ate for lunch or how I did at my last yoga class! But I do like this micro-blogging tool now to connect with people or company I have an interest in.
Once my profile was set up (bio, background image, etc), I started experimenting by posting a few tweets. Sooner or later, I realize that some people started to follow me. Then the magic happened when I retweeted (RT) some other people Tweets! I know, it’s sounds a bit weird, but Twitter alone has allow me over the last few months to make more business connections than any networking events I’ve been to in the past. I am not saying that Twitter can replace live networking events, but it’s such a great compliment.
But like anything else, if you want to enjoy the power of this tool, you have to spend some time to learn some basics and more advanced tactics. At the time, I came across an excellent ebook called Twitter Success Blueprint – Social Media for Business by Sarah Prout. I highly recommend you download a copy if you’re serious about enjoying the Twitter wave, without spending your entire days on it! There is plenty of amazing Twitter resources online, such as tools (web or desktop applications) to help you manage your Twitter social life! This ebook does have a section dedicated on this topic and help me fast track my way to 2000 twitter followers. Enjoy and when you’re all set up on Twitter, don’t forget to Follow me !
