If you’re feeling like you’re drowning at work, with your finances and at home…It’s time to schedule a detox! A challenge I started taking on 2 years ago was to start Detoxing my life. Although you won’t focus on all at the same time, pick 2 or 3 that are your personal areas of highest stress.
1) Detox your kitchen cupboards (schedule 1 hour right now in your calendar). Toss processed foods, white flour items, refined sugar, white sugar, artifical sweeteners, cookies and all that is JUNK.
2) Book a weekend retreat or even a 1 night retreat with yourself, a book and a spa treatment. You need a time-out from your life to take perspective on things and journal. A great weekend retreat or 5-day retreat is www.americanyogini.com
3) Detox your closet. I say if you haven’t worn it in 6-months and it is in season- give it away. Take a bag and just start tossing clothes that don’t fit or that you’re keeping for that one perfect day. It is the best feeling in the world to detox your closet! Make room for the ‘new’ and get rid of those dusty old looking wrinkly clothes!
4) Hire a bookkeeping to tackle that shoe box of receipts. If someone does it faster and better than you- DELEGATE. You can surely find a bookkeeper for $20-$50 per hour to get rid of your receipt mess and start getting your finances under control. It’s so enlighteneing to do this!
5) Go to a yoga Class. Even if you’re not a ‘yogi’ a good yoga class will make your feel fabulous and give you a time-out from your crazy life. Ask a good friend for a great teacher near you! Great yoga retreats happen regularly at www.kripalu.org
6) Detox your office! I try to do this almost every day for a few minutes. If your desk is a nightmare, your mind and your work will also be a nightmare! I take sunday nights for 20 minutes to ensure my office and my desk are clear and ready for great productivity on monday mornings.
7) Get some Sleep. I’ve met 10 women in the past day who are suffering from lack of sleep. Do you know how much lack of sleep effects everything in your life. Your energy, your relationships, your work, your financial life, your health and your weight are all influenced significantly by sleep so get sleepin’!!
8)Hire a HouseCleaner/Housekeeper- If you are spending your quality time cleaning your house, do you know how many productive minutes you are wasting? I know many women who make over $2000 in the short time that someone else is cleaning their house. Delegate that!!

Hi Healthy girl, this article gave me great inspiration to declutter everything! I am a new mom and so being at home all the time I find I am frustrated with how unorganized everything is!
I am definitely going to start decluttering this weekend! Thanks for the inspiration!
Great article. It’s true-when we clear our plate- we make room for desert! As a creative consultant, I always suggest this to any clients looking to get un-stuck. Even mother nature knows this. Any woman who has had a baby can attest to the “nesting” instinct that takes over and puts us in a frenzy to get out with the old as we are expecting something new. Whether it’s a relationship, your email inbox or the glove compartment in your car- clean it out and make room for new things to come your way!
Hey Healthy Girl, thanks for reminding us busy ladies that we need to take time out for ourself. Just doing a little task or giving ourself a little time alone is a step closer to feel good!
Healthy girl, what you say is 100% correct. We detox our bodies but we forget to detox our minds and our surroundings.
