September Isn’t Just Back-to-School for the Kids!

September is also a time of renewal for adults.  Many of us make health & wellness goals in January however studies show that the gyms see a surge in traffic in September as people redefine their fitness goals for the year.  We’ve spent at least 13 or 17 years getting ready for school in September that it seems so ingrained in our mentality.  Now that we’re no longer in school, many of us still use September as a time to redefine our goals for the year.

On Labour Day weekend, I made a trip to my local Fitness Depot to purchase some Kettle Bells and was told that they’d had their busiest day in months as people were buying up fitness equipment left, right and centre.  The recession doesn’t seem to exist in the fitness world or maybe because we are in recovery mode, people are using it as an opportunity to recover their bodies.

If you haven’t assessed your goals yet, I’d encourage you to take this time to renew & rejuvenate your fitness program.  If you’re an avid fitness fanatic, consider changing your program for variety or trying a new activity like Yoga, Budakon, Zumba or working out with Kettle Bells.  I have recently incorporated Kettle Bells into my fitness regime and can’t believe the increased muscle definition I’ve noticed in such a short time.  Unfortunately we won’t continue to see results in our bodies unless we regularly make changes to our fitness program.

If fitness hasn’t been a priority for you in the past, consider incorporating some cardio & weight-training exercises 3 times per week into your schedule.  If that seems like a daunting task try exercising one day in the week, then the next week increase it to twice a week, then progress to three times.  Working out at least one day/week is better than doing nothing and in a year it will represent working out 52 more times than the previous year.  Breaking down big goals into baby steps is exactly what you need to create a positive change and create a permanent habit in your life.  Your body will thank you for it and come January, you’ll be in better shape to develop another set of goals.
